The New Savages is a Blues band duo from Melbourne bringing the Mississippian style back to the stereo.
After their first album, I was approached by them to design their next album, one that will lead the band to a nomination for The Age’s ‘Best Blues Album’, a debut on the ABARAC Airplay Chart and the 4th spot on the AMRAP for four weeks.
The project involved a lot of experimentation, Going Over The River is an album filled with emotion and I wanted the visuals to transmit this notion of nostalgia that the music had.
Photography played an important role in the design and it helped to give life to the sort of storyline of the visuals. The colours were also inspired by the music and its origins, a sepia tone with the look of an old photographic negative became the base and it gave the album the right character.
The final design is an abstract visualisation of the music and the story behind the album.
